Introduction
I have a problem. At first my intention for this post was just to find ways I can blog from my new phone. Then, as my research continued, I realised that there is much more to this than I initially thought. I not only want to manage all the pictures that I gather from my phone, but also those that I acquire either from my camera, the web, friends or wherever. Some images needs to be bloggable, be it directly from the phone, or from something on my computer. And then, I want to be able to create blog entries without images too. If you have any experience with this, you would realise that this opens a myriad of possibilities and questions for someone with very limited experience with all this
So that brings me back to my problem. My initial title “Mobile Blogging” (which already changed to ‘Mobile Blogging – Part 1′) will not work anymore. An article needs a fitting title, don’t you think? Now I’m thinking somewhere along the lines of “Mobile Blogging and Picture Management”. That sounds boring. It does give the reader a better idea of what’s going on though…
How about “Mobile Blogging with picture organisation and other nifty stuff…”? Hmm. People just won’t take that serious. Then again, life shouldn’t be serious, so that will have to suffice…
Background
I’ve recently upgraded to a N70 and having Symbian + 3G available suddenly opens alot of interesting new doors. I’m trying to figure out what the best way would be to go about blogging; both when I’m at my PC and when I’m out with just my phone.
Over the following days/weeks/months I will try to capture my experience with this experiment here, and include all the useful information that I come across.
If you have any comments, suggestions or bright ideas that you think can help me ease the journey, feel free to post a comment.
Right, I think that will do for the introduction, let start off with a rough layout of what I have thisfar…
What I have sofar…
I currently have the following to play with:
Blog hosting
www.godaddy.com
Custom blog, that we received as part of our hosting package from godaddy, the only problem is that it’s not very customizable.
blogger.com
Allows you to do more, and other services can link into this.
Photos
flickr.com + Shozu
Flickr is a very nice online photo management site. You can use Shozu, a symbian app, to post to multiple sites on the net, including flickr and blogger. You can define these in your online account on their site. I will provide more info with the next post.
www.textamerica.com
I guess this was originally inteded for moblogging, but I see today that they’ve updated their site, and it seems to be moving in the direction of flickr. I’m wondering if it has the same feature of posting to your blog when you sent an image from your mobile…? I’ll have to investigate this.
Software
Picasa
This is a brilliant app from Google. Need to investigate how much this would allow for blog integration.
Nokia Lifeblog
This app is a little different, you don’t need to combine this with blogging. You take pictures on your Nokia, and the app on your fone keeps track of the timeline. You can then sync this to your PC’s Lifeblog where you can maintain and manage your pictures further. You can also post to your blog from here. I still need to investigate exactly what this allows you to do.
I will create another posting as soon as I have some more info. Something tells me the urgency factor of my type A personality will ensure that it happens within the next couple of hours!
